Electricity

Our UK Electricity team has been one of the leading brokers in the UK market for eight years. Contracts are based on the Electricity Forwards Agreement (EFA) calendar. The ICAP electronic trading platform offers contracts with terms ranging from individual prompt days, weeks, months, quarters and seasons up to six years out.

In the USA, we have been helping firms trade, hedge and understand the Electricity Derivatives Market since 1997. We dominate the market with more than an 80 per cent market share for NYMEX ClearPort cleared electricity options. Environmental Markets

In Europe, ICAP Energy has been at the forefront of providing access to the markets created by the EU Carbon Emissions Allowances (ETU) scheme. More recently a liquid market has developed in Certified Emissions Reduction (CER) contracts. ICAP is now the leading broker in this still growing market offering physical and option contracts to a large customer base.

In the USA, ICAP United Inc. is a leader in emissions brokerage. Formerly United Power, we were one of the first companies to launch an emissions brokerage desk to cover these markets. Our brokers have developed deep relationships with key players in the industry ranging from financial traders to unregulated utilities to regulated utilities. From the beginning of the EPA’s Clean Air Markets Division, ICAP has been a leader in meeting our customers’ needs for buying and selling allowances. Liquefied Natural Gas

The ICAP LNG desk was established in 2012, a year where the LNG swaps market took great steps forward.

ICAP offer the broking of financial and physical LNG contracts by voice, as well as timely analysis and commentary on the global LNG market. The financial products include JKM and EAX swaps which can be dealt direct or on our electronic trading platform.

Middle Distillates and Fuel Oil

Our Middle Distillates and Fuel Oil team commenced trading in 1996. They arrange swaps and options in a wide range of refined products. These include high and low sulphur fuel, gasoil and heat cracks, jet, diesel and gasoil differentials. These swaps and options enable producers and high volume consumers to hedge their portfolios. Over the last few years the liquidity created in these markets has led to increased participation from speculators. The team covers all time zones operating from offices in London, Singapore and New Jersey.

Natural Gas

The European Gas markets are undergoing radical restructuring as extraction from the North Sea declines, dependence on gas from Eastern Europe and LNG sources grows and wholesale markets are opened up. Our European Natural Gas desk entered the market in 2003 and has built a solid base in these rapidly emerging markets. They are a leading broker in the liquid Dutch TTF market and were the first broking team to arrange contracts in the French PEG market. Our UK Natural Gas desk was set up in 1999 and is a leading broker in the liquid NBP market and Zeebrugge. The team has consistently been voted the number one broker in the annual Energy Risk Commodity Surveys.

Residual Fuels

Since being founded 20 years ago, this division has been a leader in the physical brokering of residual fuels. Whether facilitating the delivery of a 300,000 barrel international or domestic cargo to an Electric utility customer, or structuring a sale or exchange of domestic cargoes or barges between traders or oil industry majors, our experience, reputation and professionalism is evident.

The Residual fuels division is an innovative leader, bringing new brokerage risk management tools to the industry. We were instrumental in initiating a “paper market” by introducing a standardized residual fuels contract to the market and then helping to establish the liquidity, which is now evident in a strong financially settled market. This paper market covers all aspects of residual fuels trading, allowing flexibility to hedge all important sulphur specifications over short and long term calendar strips.
