Inside ICAP
Our History
The world's premier interdealer broker began life in 1986 when Michael Spencer started Intercapital as a company of four people. Initially created to concentrate on the new interest rate swaps market Intercapital grew from humble beginnings to over four thousand employees world-wide, with offices in London, New York, Sydney, Singapore and a joint venture in Tokyo. In October 1998 Intercapital merged with EXCO plc, a listed money broker, and formed Intercapital plc. ICAP was formed by the merger of Garban plc and Intercapital plc in September 1999. It was previously named Garban-Intercapital plc and changed its name to ICAP plc in July 2001. You can read more about the Group's history on the corporate website www.icap.com

Our Culture
Open and direct, responsive, customer driven, innovative - these aren't just another set of empty corporate values. When you meet our people and hear how passionately they talk about their roles you'll see that these are lived and breathed by everyone of our people in everything they do.

Corporate Social Responsibility
You might just be surprised to learn how much importance we place on operating in a socially responsible manner and contributing to the communities in which we operate. From our Group Chief Executive, Michael Spencer, who was awarded a coveted Beacon Special Prize in recognition of his pioneering and hugely successful approach to modern philanthropy through to the brokers that give away their commissions in the company's annual Charity Day, there is a culture of giving something back that runs throughout the firm.

As part of our graduate and summer internship programme you'll get the opportunity to take part in community related projects. In the past interns and graduates have participated in events such as the 'Summer Search Auction Day' and 'Flight for Site' in aid of 'Action for Blind People'. Summer Search is a national leadership development program that helps low-income young people graduate high school, go to college, gain successful careers, and give back to society. The Summer Search Auction Day is held once a year and various items such as clothes, restaurant certificates, gift certificates for departmental stores are auctioned to raise money for charity. Our US summer interns used their salesmanship, persuasiveness and resilience in order to convince businesses to donate to the auction. In 'Flight for Site' our UK graduates were invited to turn their fiscal skills to fundraising for the day. Clad in Action's signature fuchsia t-shirts, the willing crew stationed themselves at six major London mainline stations from seven in the morning to raise funds for blind and partially sighted people. Some of the team also spent the day fundraising at the London Eye, which was lit fuchsia in honour of the event. ICAP went even further, generously agreeing to go pound for pound with the budding brokers, double match-funding whatever they raised on the day.
